The Smurfs Get Real, A Director

It has been over a year since I had heard that Sony and Columbia Pictures wanted to make a “Smurfs” movie.  A part of me believed that somehow the idea had faded into obscurity after the studios execs realized what they were doing.  Sadly, we are not that lucky.

Slated for a December of 2010 release, Variety reports that the Smurfs have signed a Papa.  Raja Gosnell, director of such classics as Beverly Hills Chihuahua, will be bringing the ’80s hit TV show to the silver screen.

Following in the wake of live-action/animated fare like Garfield and Alvin and the Chipmunks, it is a pretty decent bet that ‘quality’ won’t be a term tagged to this project.  My only hope is that exorbitant amounts of time and digital care go into creating Smurfette.  Mmm… smurfy.

  1. Come on, guys. April 1st was like 3 months ago. It is *way* too late to try pulling an April Fool’s gag.
