Dungeons & Dragons Still Banned in Prison

Early this week, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit rejected the claims in a lawsuit that challenged a ban on Dungeons and Dragons by the Waupun Correctional Institution in Wisconsin.

The law suit was brought by prisoner Kevin T. Singer, arguing that the First and 14th amendment were violated by the prison’s decision to ban DnD. With the decision also came the confiscation of his books, a 96-page manuscript he wrote, and additional materials.

New & Improved Dungeons and Dragons on Window’s Surface

With the fall semester being over, new updates come from the awesome DnD Surface team from Carnegie Mellon. At the beginning of the semester, they showed proof of concept of playing DnD on Window’s Surface. Now, they are showing some awesome progress, from accurate line of sight to a grid system that shows what can be done in a move action all the way up to full round action. We can only hope they continue improving the system next semester. Hopefully by the time they finish, I’ll have had saved up $13,000 to buy a Window’s Surface.

Final Fantasy XIV Beta Application is Go

The new year is almost upon us, and with that, new 2010 games will be here soon. One of the games on the horizon is Square Enix’s new MMO Final Fantasy XIV. However, like most MMOs these days, they will be having a beta test phase before official launch. You can participate in the beta if you have a PC and go here to apply. You can sign up to beta for the PS3, but you will have to wait longer to get the possible opportunity. Also remember don’t apply more than once, or you will be removed from the chance to beta. No one wants to miss out on seeing mithras in new high-def graphics.

3ddotgameheroes_boxart_promo

Hot off the heels of the announcement that Atlus will be publishing 3D Dot Game Heroes comes the launch trailer of the game. It looks very familiar to the some old school action-adventure games; Zelda comes to mind. The graphics and music of the video already make me want to have this in my PS3 now. Check out the retro, nostalgia-inducing video after the jump.

*Update* PS3 to Support PSP Adhoc Now

psp adhocParty

It is always a pain to find someone that lives near you to play the same PSP game via adhoc. It is also awkward to sit in the same room looking at two different small screens. But luckily Sony has released the adhocParty system will be releasing the adhocParty system “soon” to help reduce those awkward moments.

The adhocParty software will allow PSP owners who own a PS3 to connect to other PSP owners over the Playstation Network to play PSP games that have an adhoc mode. It will also allow the players to talk to each other with the PlayStation Eye or Wireless Headset. To top it all off, the software will be free to download.

So all of you people out there with the new Gran Turismo and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite will be able to play each other in the comforts of your living rooms. As for me I will be getting out Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness and purchasing Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days in hopes that there are others out there to throw people at.
