“The best four days in gaming.”
That’s how they refer to Gen Con, but why? If you look at and compare all of the events at the convention, you’ll find that only 5% (at most) of the show is dedicated to video games.
Board games are the true stars. Let’s put the term “gaming” back in its rightful place.
What’s your favorite board game?
Dylan and Cole were not the only ones to have a camera at Gen Con; I also had one with me. Now you too can see some of the additional things that were at Gen Con. This is best viewed using the PicLens link below the jump.
Weren’t there to see the opening ceremony? Don’t worry; we were! Enjoy the moving pictures.

I’ve been a huge fan of tabletop games, Dungeons & Dragons in particular, for the better part of my life. Most of the time, I’m right there with the majority in that I really don’t like people going in and mucking about with rules when everything is already oh so good.
But then, at GenCon, I played Pathfinder from Paizo Publishing LLC for the first time with the newly released and completed core ruleset, and I absolutely fell in love.
This is what D&D was meant to be.
Unfortunately, the exhaustion of running through 4 days of gaming took its toll on us and we were unable to update any more of the images during the convention, so here we have the rest of them. Continue Reading…

I love a good bit of cosplay, and at this year’s Gen Con there was no shortage of it. The best of the best put on the best of their best for display in this year’s costume contest.
And for those who missed it, I’m here for you!
While at GenCon this weekend, the good people over at Corporate Espionage gave a tutorial of their card game and some free decks to those in attendance. Being the broke bloggers that we are, Tim Burke and I jumped on the chance and gave the game a shot. The product that we demoed, and the culture being built around it, got me more excited/interested than just about anything else during the best four days in gaming. Check out more on this intriguing new card game after the bump.

Who doesn’t love a good card game? I know I do!
Today at Gen Con I met up with a representative for Fantasy Flight Games to sit down to enjoy a demo of the relatively new Living Card Game (LCG) A Game of Thrones: The Card Game based on the writings of George R. R. Martin.
While at Gen Con, one of the main draws for me is demoing new products that are new to the market or soon to hit retail. One of the games that struck a particularly harmoneous chord with me was Herobits. Herobits is a non-tradeable card game which seeks to provide simple, yet enjoyable play that is accessible for anyone of almost any age.
Day 1 of Gen Con saw the opening ceremonies with Tracy Hickman and Peter Adkison plugging the XTreme GM Handbook, holding a moment of silence for our departed comrades, and tossing the first die roll of the convention. We walked the floor a bit and managed to take a few pictures of some of the displays, but this personally being my first time here, I was a bit overwhelmed and took far less shots than I intended. At least there are 3 more days to make up for it. Anyway, without further ado, the first shots of Gen Con, after the bump. Continue Reading…
The whole cast is coming at you as live as we can from Gen Con 2009! We talk about our experiences with Gen Con so far and what we expect to do in the coming days. Much is talked of, from cosplaying to noodles to the new d20 system from Paizo, Pathfinder, and much much muuuuch more.
This week, the entire Geekspective crew will be heading to Indianapolis for Gen Con, and we really hope to meet some of you there! So, since we’re on con mode, let’s have some con discussion!

Which convention do you enjoy the most?

A few days ago Fantasy Flight Games, publisher of popular board games such as Talisman, made a surprise announcement. They will be releasing a remake of the classic card game Chaos Marauders.
Originally released in 1987 by Games Workshop (creators of the Warhammer series) Chaos Marauders gained something of a cult following of players for its fast, frenzied gameplay, but never really caught on with the general gaming public.
Fantasy Flight Games hopes to change that.
As an aspiring artist and lover of fantasy inspired works, I am very excited for this year’s GenCon Artist Guest of Honor, Omar Rayyan.
