Well, it’s February 9th and 2k Marin’s sequel to the 2007 Game of the Year, Bioshock, has been released. How has Rapture fared during the decade between titles? What’s all this about multiplayer? How have the mechanics changed? Will I ever look at the box art the same ever again? Well, having picked up the game at midnight and spent several hours with it, I’ll be happy to answer most of these questions…after the jump.

After several false starts, the newest DLC for Bioware’s Dragon Age has finally been released on XBox 360 and PC with no word on PS3 yet. Thanks to some poor planning on Bioware’s behalf, the content dropped on January 29th, a mere 3 days after Mass Effect 2. Thanks to these overlapping releases, I’m willing to bet that I wasn’t the only Dragon Age fan that was blissfully unaware of the new content. I’ll let you know if it’s worth the five dollar price tag… after the jump.

The new year is almost upon us, and with that, new 2010 games will be here soon. One of the games on the horizon is Square Enix’s new MMO Final Fantasy XIV. However, like most MMOs these days, they will be having a beta test phase before official launch. You can participate in the beta if you have a PC and go here to apply. You can sign up to beta for the PS3, but you will have to wait longer to get the possible opportunity. Also remember don’t apply more than once, or you will be removed from the chance to beta. No one wants to miss out on seeing mithras in new high-def graphics.
When Valve announced that they would be releasing a sequel to their smash hit Left 4 Dead so rapidly after the original, many were skeptical. Some took it as a sign of the end times and boycotted Valve’s decision to “screw over” the folk who had just purchased the first. Others saw it as a great boon to the community to receive a second entry in the franchise with such haste. With the sequel’s recent release, we can finally see if it was worth all of the fuss.

Modern Warfare 2 is almost upon us, and to sedate the wanting Infinity Ward has released the official launch trailer. It features Eminem dropping beats for the trailer and no dedicated servers. Be warned though: the trailer may contain some pretty awesome spoilers. You can check it out after the jump.

I think you will all agree with me that getting killed by randomly tossed grenades sucks. World Series participant and Game 3 pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies Cole Hamels also agrees. He even goes the distance to even label the people that throw those grenades as “pussies” in the newest MW2 promotional video. You can check out the video after the jump while I play through MW‘s singleplayer story.

Last week, we announced the advent of Dragon Age Journeys: The Deep Roads. Crafted by the newly founded EA2D production crew, Journeys is a flash-based Strategy RPG that can be played in your web browser. I don’t usually tend to scrutinize Flash games too much, but having spent several hours with this title, it is clear to see that this is not your average Flash game. Read on to find out how the game makes the grade and how it has shifted the paradigm of Flash-based entertainment.

With the impending release of Bioware’s hotly anticipated new RPG Dragon Age: Origins, EA has been hard at work to release a browser-based flash game to expand upon the story of Origins. The result is Dragon Age Journeys, a three part installment by EA’s newest studio, EA2D. A crack team of flash author greats has been assembled for the project staff, including Daniel Stradwick, Adam Phillips, and Andrew Sega. The Deep Roads is part one of the three part saga that has just been released, and even includes unlockable equipment for Origins upon completion of certain achievements and tasks.
Protagonists. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and creeds. The most successful of these creatures seem to be the strong and silent type. From Link onward, a majority of our protagonists have been mute or near-mute with fairly generic personalities. This can be used to great effect or detriment on behalf of the creator, depending on the quality of writing to flesh out the character. Two of the most recently successful of these silent heroes shall be our subjects for today’s Thursday Throwdown.

For the week of October 15th through the 21st, existing Lord of the Rings Online accounts will be activated for free as a part of the Welcome Back Week event. Also for the week, get the Mines of Moria expansion pack for only $9.99. As an additional bonus, if any subscription of 3-months or more is purchased, players will receive the new Siege of Mirkwood expansion pack for free. If you enjoyed this MMO as much as I once did, you may want to give this value a glance.

This week the Live Arcade saw the release of the South Park tower defense game and Lucidity, a 2D platforming puzzler by LucasArts. Since I’ve about had my fill of tower defense for the time being, this week I will be looking at Lucidity. The game can be found on the Live Arcade for 800 points, as well as through Steam for $9.99 on the PC. The price was right, so how did the game square up?

Since Josh is some sort of evil dictator, he’s making me (ME of all people) post this series of interviews conducted by Gametrailers on various elements of the upcoming Modern Warfare II. It covers some info about the game’s single and multiplayer aspects, but mainly reveals elements to the series’ new Spec Ops mode.
A very intriguing 21 minutes, if I do say so myself. Hit the jump for video.

*UPDATE – Trailer has been released on the following websites (All sites are slow Sunday night. See what works for you):
* Infinity Ward
* Gametrailers
* Youtube
Since Sundays are usually lackluster for news, or even completely void of it, I figured I’d throw out an FYI in case you missed it.
A new trailer for Modern Warfare 2 will air sometime during the Chargers-Steelers game tonight (NBC – 8:20 ET kickoff). I post this since Infinity Ward is always pretty hush-hush and to the point about their games; so every chance they throw at us to see some content is pretty sweet.
Now, the real question is for those who don’t normally watch football: will you watch the game to see the trailer? I personally can’t stand watching football unless it’s for a party with food and drunken imbeciles. But I have a suspicion I’ll at least leave on the TV in the background.

The next Final Fantasy MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, got its own brand new trailer for Tokyo Game Show. Compared to the first FFXIV trailer, this one seems to show more detail on what to expect. I’m glad to see that all the races from FFXI are present in the trailer in action. Also, if the graphics are what they show in the trailer for the bad guys, FFXIV will truly be a badass MMO to play. Now, I only hope I can get into the beta, about which they post info at the end of the trailer. Check it out after the jump.

A brand new Assassin’s Creed II trailer. Mostly showing off some of the combat you can do in the upcoming game with a funky music beat to set the mood. Some of the modeling does not look so great zoomed in and slowed down though. I have a feeling the game will look great when played on a HDTV at regular speed. Enjoy the funky beats and action.
