Is Modern Warfare 2 getting a tad bit stale?  Looks like the developers are releasing a bit of an addition come the end of March.

Bioshock 2 – First Impressions of Rapture

Well, it’s February 9th and 2k Marin’s sequel to the 2007 Game of the Year, Bioshock, has been released. How has Rapture fared during the decade between titles? What’s all this about multiplayer? How have the mechanics changed? Will I ever look at the box art the same ever again? Well, having picked up the game at midnight and spent several hours with it, I’ll be happy to answer most of these questions…after the jump.

Five Dollar Review – Chime

The realm of musical puzzle games is inhabited by few games intrepid enough to meld quick wits and adaptive audio. Last week, another title graced this hallowed land with its presence on the XBox Live Arcade. Chime, developed by Zoe Mode and published by the non-profit publisher OneBigGame, is now available for the paltry sum of 400 MS points.

Find out more after the jump.

DLC Mini-review – Return to Ostagar

After several false starts, the newest DLC for Bioware’s Dragon Age has finally been released on XBox 360 and PC with no word on PS3 yet. Thanks to some poor planning on Bioware’s behalf, the content dropped on January 29th, a mere 3 days after Mass Effect 2. Thanks to these overlapping releases, I’m willing to bet that I wasn’t the only Dragon Age fan that was blissfully unaware of the new content. I’ll let you know if it’s worth the five dollar price tag… after the jump.

It’s Been One Week : Bayonetta

As we’ve already discussed on the weekly podcast, I’ve been playing a fair amount of Bayonetta. It’s been one week now since I received the title through Gamefly, and my excitement has not yet waned. Granted, my Bayonetta time has been heavily perforated by Mass Effect 2 time, but at least 8 hours have been logged in the former. With that, I feel comfortable to share with you my opinions of the game thus far…

It’s been almost three years since the last Armored Core game release on console. There has been a couple of re-releases of Armored Core games on the PSP but no games on the console front. Thankfully, From Software recently announced its fourteenth installment of the series Armored Core 5, which will be for the PS3 and Xbox360.

Welcome to Greed Corp

The strategy genre has always wrestled with complexity versus accessibility. W! Games seeks to craft a more user-friendly strategy game with their upcoming title Greed Corp for PSN and XBox Live Arcade.

“The mechanics should be transparent, the winning strategy should not,” say the devs.  According to their blog, the developers seek to keep a high level of strategic depth while giving the player fewer actions to memorize.

Greed Corp will be the first in a series of titles existing within the rich, industrial world of Mistbound.  Today marks the creation of the Mistbound Community Site, where one may sign up for a chance to receive the game for free upon its release. Also released to the public on this date is a rather stunning intro trailer into this bold frontier of Mistbound, which may be witnessed after the jump.

Capcom Unveils Mega Man 10 for Digital Download

Rockman in the new decadeWhen Capcom released Mega Man 9, the title met with great success and resonated with the Mega Man fanbase, offering up some of the most challenging gameplay that the series has seen. It seems that the fans’ cries of joy did not fall on deaf ears as Capcom has just announced that Mega Man 10 will be released in March of 2010. The title will be released for digital download on XBox Live Arcade, Playstation Network, and Nintendo WiiWare. This time around, a mysterious robotic flu known as “Roboenza” is spreading across the globe, and it’s up to the blue bomber himself to battle the rampaging bots and uncover the secrets behind the virus. Could it be Wily’s up to his old tricks? This anxious gamer can’t wait to find out.

Capcom Bringing Mayor Haggar to XBLA/PSN

Capcom has just recently announced a new title to be released for the XBox Live Arcade and Playstation Network in April of 2010. Final Fight Double Impact will include the hit beat ‘em up title Final Fight, as well as the side-scrolling dungeon fantasy Magic Sword. Both titles will be spit-shined with the same HD filter treatment that we’ve seen in the re-release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Expect the title to be online capable and maintain the same visual polish that one has come to expect from Capcom’s re-releases. It’s refreshing to see a company that understands the relevancy of the past and comprehends the  value of such cherished past titles. Here’s hoping a future re-release of Captain Commando isn’t too far off.I make suspenders look good

Left 4 Dead 2 Review – 2 Soon?

When Valve announced that they would be releasing a sequel to their smash hit Left 4 Dead so rapidly after the original, many were skeptical. Some took it as a sign of the end times and boycotted Valve’s decision to “screw over” the folk who had just purchased the first. Others saw it as a great boon to the community to receive a second entry in the franchise with such haste. With the sequel’s recent release, we can finally see if it was worth all of the fuss.I knew I should have avoided the interstate at this time of day... Continue Reading…

Cole Hamels Confirms Grenade Spam is “for Pussies”

MW2_Fight_Again_Grenade_Spam

I think you will all agree with me that getting killed by randomly tossed grenades sucks. World Series participant and Game 3 pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies Cole Hamels also agrees. He even goes the distance to even label the people that throw those grenades as “pussies” in the newest MW2 promotional video. You can check out the video after the jump while I play through MW’s singleplayer story.

Thursday Throwdown – Silence is Golden

Protagonists. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and creeds. The most successful of these creatures seem to be the strong and silent type. From Link onward, a majority of our protagonists have been mute or near-mute with fairly generic personalities. This can be used to great effect or detriment on behalf of the creator, depending on the quality of writing to flesh out the character. Two of the most recently successful of these silent heroes shall be our subjects for today’s Thursday Throwdown.

Would the real silent protagonist please say yup? Continue Reading…

Lucidity Mini-Review – Sweet Dreams

This week the Live Arcade saw the release of the South Park tower defense game and Lucidity, a 2D platforming puzzler by LucasArts.  Since I’ve about had my fill of tower defense for the time being, this week I will be looking at Lucidity. The game can be found on the Live Arcade for 800 points, as well as through Steam for $9.99 on the PC. The price was right, so how did the game square up?
