Bioshock 2 – First Impressions of Rapture

Well, it’s February 9th and 2k Marin’s sequel to the 2007 Game of the Year, Bioshock, has been released. How has Rapture fared during the decade between titles? What’s all this about multiplayer? How have the mechanics changed? Will I ever look at the box art the same ever again? Well, having picked up the game at midnight and spent several hours with it, I’ll be happy to answer most of these questions…after the jump.

Welcome to Greed Corp

The strategy genre has always wrestled with complexity versus accessibility. W! Games seeks to craft a more user-friendly strategy game with their upcoming title Greed Corp for PSN and XBox Live Arcade.

“The mechanics should be transparent, the winning strategy should not,” say the devs.  According to their blog, the developers seek to keep a high level of strategic depth while giving the player fewer actions to memorize.

Greed Corp will be the first in a series of titles existing within the rich, industrial world of Mistbound.  Today marks the creation of the Mistbound Community Site, where one may sign up for a chance to receive the game for free upon its release. Also released to the public on this date is a rather stunning intro trailer into this bold frontier of Mistbound, which may be witnessed after the jump.

*Update* PS3 to Support PSP Adhoc Now

psp adhocParty

It is always a pain to find someone that lives near you to play the same PSP game via adhoc. It is also awkward to sit in the same room looking at two different small screens. But luckily Sony has released the adhocParty system will be releasing the adhocParty system “soon” to help reduce those awkward moments.

The adhocParty software will allow PSP owners who own a PS3 to connect to other PSP owners over the Playstation Network to play PSP games that have an adhoc mode. It will also allow the players to talk to each other with the PlayStation Eye or Wireless Headset. To top it all off, the software will be free to download.

So all of you people out there with the new Gran Turismo and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite will be able to play each other in the comforts of your living rooms. As for me I will be getting out Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness and purchasing Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days in hopes that there are others out there to throw people at.

Atlus to Publish 3D Dot Game Heroes for PS3

3ddotgameheroes_promoscreen

Atlus usually has great taste when it comes to what games they publish. With Demon’s Soul being their first PS3 game, they have now chosen their next game to publish.  3D Dot Game Heroes, which they have already announced will be available for the PS3 in May 2010, will cost only $39.99!

A long, long time ago, the Dark King Onyx brought an age of darkness upon Dotnia Kingdom.  Only by the bravery of a hero with a legendary sword was Onyx sealed in an orb, restoring peace to the world.  But Fuelle, a powerful Dark Bishop, has stolen the orb, and with it, peace.  Dotnia requires a hero once more!  Can you live up to the legend?

I don’t know about you, but that sounds awfully similar to some action-adventure games I played when I was young.  You can check out some screenshots and game features after the jump.

Thursday Throwdown – Sidekick Showdown

Throughout history, heroes have had sidekicks. These stalwart individuals are not afraid to get their hands dirty for minimal recognition or to take the blame when things go faulty. Today, two such sidekicks do battle for supremacy. Our candidates are Urdnot Wrex from Mass Effect, and Fawkes, the super mutant from Fallout 3. Both are certainly no stranger to heavy weapons, and neither are too pleasant to look at. Who shall reign supreme in this week’s Thursday Throwdown?Sidekickers

Batman: Arkham Asylum Review – Crazy Good

Having fully completed the storyline and Riddler challenges, I feel comfortable expounding on my previous statements regarding the newest Batman title by Rocksteady Games. All over the internet, the opinion seems to be uniform that this game is nothing short of immaculate. Hit the bump to find out whether or not we agree.

Square-Enix to Publish Modern Warfare 2

Oh god, I hope there are chocobos!

In what sounds like it’s actually some sort of elaborate April Fool’s day prank on the brink of September, Square-Enix just announced that it would be publishing Japan’s version of Activision’s Modern Warfare 2.

Letters from Arkham – Day 2

Aaron Cash – It’s been a long day. First that Killer Croc bastard that took my hand has gotten
loose thanks to that Joker creep, then I get trapped in a room surrounded by laughing gas. After
Batman springs me, Dr. Young starts raving about how we need to get to the mansion to secure her
research notes. Well, Bats seems busy so I offer to take her there myself, got to bust me some
inmate heads on the way over there. Well when we get there, Young gets seperated and some of those
Darkgate bozos tie me down in the Records Room and go about trying to secure whatever it is
they’re after. Sure enough, right on schedule, inmates start finding their buddies strung up under
gargoyles or knocked unconscious in the middle of the floor, they never even saw it coming. Bats
swoops down and kicks the last frightened little motherlover in the back of the head right in front
of me and lets me go free. What a night, now if only I could find that Croc…
Louie Green – Hung above a pool of electrified water, damn Harley Quinn.Letters from Arkham

Letters from Arkham

Today’s Letter from Arkham brings us a tale by Aaron Cash, a veteran guard on Arkham Island who has a history with the Killer Croc. I will stretch them out in case people decide to post letters of their own to include in future digests. Please enjoy today’s Letter from Arkham…

This Week in Rock Band – Talking Heads

This is what bad photoshop looked like before photoshop.

Why do you do this to me, Harmonix? Just when I think you’ve offered a bit of a reprieve from spending all of my money on your game, you go and throw out more amazing DLC options.

This week’s DLC brings us more songs from another of my favorite bands,  the Talking Heads.

Qu’est-ce que c’est?

Letters from Arkham – Day 1

Letters from ArkhamWhile playing through Batman: Arkham Asylum, I realized that there are a lot of random characters that have little to do with the storyline aside from being passive observers whirled about in Joker’s chaotic maelstrom. In an effort to lend some voice to these ancillary characters, I will be writing small letters, journal entries, etc. from the perspective of various guards and inmates of Arkham Asylum. I will try to keep these as spoiler free as possible, and so far I think I’ve accomplished that. So, without further ado, the first installment of Letters from Arkham.

Initial Impressions – Batman Arkham Asylum

Yesterday, everyone’s favorite bat-themed detective got yet another gaming installment. Batman: Arkham Asylum is the hotly anticipated multi-platform title developed by Rocksteady Studios, and published by Eidos Interactive. I picked up the title yesterday and was unable to put it down all evening. What I experienced was pure gaming gold, from the free-flowing combat system, to the innovative sleuthing skills Batman utilizes to keep an eye on every little detail of the stunning environments.
